How to Install DirecTV Wiring

You can connect the wiring for your DirecTV satellite service yourself.

Deciding to purchase satellite service from DirecTV is only half of the process necessary to begin watching satellite programming in your home. If you choose to install the satellite dish yourself as opposed to having DirecTV do it for you, you'll need to connect the cables correctly from the dish to your receiver and from your receiver to your TV.

Things You'll Need

• Coaxial cable
• Power drill
• Phone cable

Instructions

1. Locate the SWM (single wire multi-switch) line LNB cable wire coming from your DirecTV dish. Route the coaxial cable from the satellite dish to a grounding block, which should be attached to the side of your house at the cable entry point.

2. Drill a hole at the entrance point in your wall. Run the cable through your house and into the room where the satellite receiver sits.

3. Connect a coaxial cable to the "Satellite In" jack on the back of your DirecTV receiver. Connect a phone cable from the phone jack in the room into the "Phone Jack" port on the back of your DirecTV receiver.

4. Connect one end of another coaxial cable (or HDMI cable if your TV supports this type of high-definition cable) into the "Out to TV" jack on the back of the DirecTV receiver. Screw the other end into your TV's "In from Satellite" jack.

5. Tune your TV to Channel 3 or 4 and turn on the DirecTV receiver to begin displaying content ont your TV screen.
