How to Set Up Voice Mail for a Lucent BIS 10

Voice mail systems store messages from callers.

The Avaya/Lucent/Merlin BIS 10 voice mail system is a separate unit of a private telephone exchange system. It is connected into an extension port on the telephone system and is programmed to answer after a predetermined number of rings. The Lucent/Merlin Legend communication system allows a user to set up 24 voice mailboxes using two extension ports, each with its own extension number. A personal greeting can be recorded separately for each voice mailbox.

Instructions

1. Pick up the Lucent BIS 10 handset, dial "*17" and the voice mail main extension.

2. Press the "#" key to confirm the voice mail extension number you dialed.

3. Enter your password at the password prompt, if you have one, and press the "#" key.

4. Press only the "#" key if you do not have a password and enter the password you want to use; press the "#" key. Re-enter the password and press the "#" to confirm your password.

5. Press the "1" key to record your personal greeting.

6. Start your recording at the prompt. Press the "#" after you finish your recording.

7. Press the "3" key and then the "1" key to activate your personal greeting.

8. Hang up the phone and call your own extension. Listen to your personal greeting to confirm that your voice mailbox is properly set up.
