How to Troubleshoot an Inverted Screen on an iPaq

The HP iPAQ is a convenient PDA device, but it is not trouble free. Infrequently, a bug might cause your iPAQ to malfunction. One malfunction is screen distortion. The screen might invert and display your data either upside or backwards. Follow these steps to troubleshoot your inverted iPAQ screen.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your iPAQ. Allow it to cool for five minutes. Reactivate your iPAQ by pressing the power button. Occasionally, a simple reboot will correct the inverted screen problem.

    • 2

Determine over which axis your screen is inverted. If it is upside down, merely hold your device upside down to navigate the menus and fix the problem. If it is inverted left to right and you have trouble reading backwards, hold your device's screen up to a mirror so you can more clearly see each option.

    • 3

Tap the "Windows" icon with your stylus. Tap the "Settings" option. Then tap the "Restore Factory Defaults" tab and confirm when the screen prompts you. This should reset the operating system and allow it to display the screen in the appropriate manner.

    • 4

Leave your iPAQ on and allow it to lose power naturally if it will not respond to your stylus. In some rare cases, the system will need to completely lose power before it allows you to reset. Plug your iPAQ into a wall outlet using your AC adapter only after the device shuts off on its own.

Tips & Warnings

  • Restoring factory settings will delete any additional data or software you might have installed. Perform a system back-up to preserve your data before you restore the defaults.
