Small, sliced tomatoes make a wonderful addition to summer salads and garnishes. Slicing several, however, can be very time consuming. To make preparation of small tomato dishes a snap, slice several tomatoes at once. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Sharp knife
  • 12 grape or cherry tomatoes, washed and de-stemmed
  • 2 medium plastic cottage cheese (or similar) container lids
  • Cutting board

Instructions

      Place one of the plastic lids on the cutting board, flat side down, so the rim of the lid faces up.

      Arrange the tomatoes inside the lid. Use as many tomatoes as will fill the lid snugly.

      Place the other lid on top of the tomatoes, flat side up, so the rim of the lid is facing down.

      Press down firmly on the top so that the tomatoes are held in place between the two lids, and use the knife to slice through the tomatoes, working horizontally in a sawing motion until the knife cuts through all of the tomatoes.

      Remove the top lid, scoop the tomatoes into your salad or other recipe, and serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when using any knife. Hold your fingers out and away from the knife while pressing down on the lid and slicing.
