How to Calculate Bandwidth for DeviceNet

DeviceNet is an industrial automation network that connects different devices inside of an assembly network. DeviceNet exchanges information, regulates safety monitoring and controls activation of devices over large networks. Your DeviceNet network needs to have sufficient available bandwidth to function. You can calculate the amount of bandwidth required using a simple DeviceNet calculation formula.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Start" menu on the DeviceNet server and type "DeviceNet Calculator."

    • 2

Click "Bandwidth" on the opening splash screen. Your network will immediately be polled for available bandwidth as the system performs a number of tests.

    • 3

Enter the amount of bandwidth you would like to reserve for private usage in the "Bandwidth" text box. The default is "20," representing 20 percent bandwidth.

    • 4

Click "Monitor current usage." The system will begin monitoring how much bandwidth DeviceNet uses. If the system believes you require additional bandwidth, it will email the administrative contact in the DeviceNet settings to inform him of the shortfall.
