The Limited Liability Company (LLC) structure is popular for small businesses. The main reason for the popularity of the LLC is the simplicity of the structure and the simple process for setting one up. In most instances, you really don't need an attorney to help you file the paperwork. Online companies charge between $99 and $299 to process LLC paperwork, but in Florida, setting up an LLC takes less than an hour, so you can do it yourself for free.
Gather all the information required to file for an LLC: business address, which must be a physical address and not a P.O. Box; name of the LLC's registered agent, who will accept service of process on behalf of your business; and the names and addresses of all the managing members or managers associated with the LLC. A single person can act as both the registered agent and managing member, or several people can be associated with the LLC. The cost is the same no matter how many people are associated with the LLC.
Go to the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations website at sunbiz.org. On this website you will find the online filing form for LLCs.
Click on "E-Filing Services" and choose "FL Limited Liability Company Articles of Organization" from the drop-down menu. On this page, you will enter all the information you gathered for your LLC. The filing cost for the LLC is $125, which is required, but submitting the form is free. If you want to receive a paper certificate of your LLC status or certified copy in the mail, you can elect these additional services for an extra cost.
Click "Continue" at the bottom of the screen once you have entered all your information. This will take you to a page to confirm and verify your information. Once verified, click "Submit" and you'll be taken to the online checkout page. Enter your credit card information and click "Submit" again, and you'll be directed to a confirmation page. At this point, you will wait to receive email confirmation that your LLC is legal in the state of Florida.
