Instructions for Installing a Lasco Tub & Shower

Save

Lasco tub and shower units offer one-piece installation of a three walled tub/shower unit. Careful layout and cutting of the holes required for plumbing fixtures such as the shower valve and shower head ensures a waterproof seal around the entire shower. Local codes must be adhered to when installing this unit in the home. The base of this unit must be installed level and in most cases it will need to be shimmed to raise the tub to a level position.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • 48-inch level
  • Plaster of Paris
  • Jigsaw with fine blade
  • Drill
  • 1-inch hole saw
  • 1-inch galvanized roofing nails
  • Hammer
  • Place the level on the floor to check it for level.

  • Measure the shower head pipe and transfer the dimension to the shower wall unit.

  • Cut the hole for the shower head in the shower wall unit using the 1-inch hole saw and drill.

  • Measure the dimensions for the shower valve and transfer them to the shower wall unit.

  • Drill a hole in the center of the shower valve location on the shower wall with the 1-inch hole saw.

  • Start cutting the shower valve hole by placing the jigsaw on the shower wall with the blade extending into the 1-inch hole previously drilled.

  • Cut the perimeter for the valve by starting from the 1-inch hole and cutting around the layout marks on the shower wall.

  • Mix the plaster of Paris in a bucket to a peanut butter consistency.

  • Pour the plaster on the floor in the area that is low according to the previous 48-inch level reading.

  • Set the shower tub assembly into the opening.

  • Place the level horizontally across the tub length and width to check it for level.

  • Press the tub down into the plaster until it is level.

  • Nail the vertical side flanges into the wood studs with the galvanized roofing nails, spacing them every 8 inches.

  • Nail the horizontal flanges into the studs with galvanized roofing nails.
