# How to Calculate Body Fat, Height and Weight

Calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI) is a good way to find out whether you are underweight, at just the right weight or overweight. BMI is calculated using your height and weight, and although it does not measure body fat directly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that BMI "correlates to direct measures of body fat." You can quickly calculate your own BMI by first measuring your height and weight, and then use your BMI to figure out your body fat percentage.

### Things You'll Need

• Measuring tape
• Bathroom scale
• Calculator
• Measure your height in inches with the measuring tape. Write this figure down. Measure your weight in pounds, using the bathroom scale. Write this down as well.

• Square your height in inches. For example, if you are 70 inches tall, multiply 70 by 70. Write this figure down.

• Divide your weight in pounds by the square-inch figure. Multiply that number by 703. This is your BMI number.

• Multiply your BMI by 1.2, and write this figure down. Multiply your age by 0.23, and add it to the first figure.

• Subtract 5.4 from this number if you are a woman and 16.2 if you are man. This is your body fat percentage.
