How to Hide a Camera Lens

Save

If you wish to record or photograph someone or something without being noticed, it is necessary to hide your camera lens. The lens can easily reflects sunlight, and, therefore, be exposed to the subject being photographed. Certain video cameras can be concealed inside objects and triggered to record whenever motion is detected. Still cameras and non-motion-sensor video cameras must be concealed while the cameraman operates it by hand. The lens, particularly a large zoom lens, can be hidden with camouflage and through the careful positioning of the cameraman.

  • Scope out the area where you wish to photograph or record. Look for a possible hiding spot where you can hold the camera without being noticed. If your camera has a motion sensor, look for possible areas where it can be placed. Also, look at surrounding objects that can help conceal the camera.

  • Insert the camera into an object that fits in with the surroundings. For example, if you wish to record your front porch, the camera might fit into a birdhouse. If you wish to record in your living room, the camera may be inserted into a teddy bear or lamp shade. This method of concealment only works for motion-sensor spy cameras. If you wish to photograph or record using a non-motion-sensor camera continue to Step 3.

  • Create a fabric lens cover that blends into the surroundings. For example, if you are situated in a wooded area to take wildlife photos, cover the camera lens with green and brown camouflage fabric. Add twigs and moss to the fabric so that it blends in with the surroundings. Wrap the fabric around the lens so that only the small glass circle peeks through. You also should dress yourself in camouflage as well.
