How to Remove a Mustang Trunk Weatherstrip

The Mustang is an entry level sports car manufactured and sold by the Ford Motor Company. Like most cars, the vehicle features a trunk for storage and transporting of objects. Inside the trunk lid, a weatherstrip acts as a seal to prevent rain, snow and water from entering the trunk. This strip can become worn due to weather and normal wear and needs to be replaced occasionally. Use a putty knife and rubbing alcohol to remove the weatherstrip in the trunk of a Mustang.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the trunk. Insert the ignition key into the trunk key hold and turn to the right to open. Depending on the make and model, the "Trunk Release" button on a key remote may be used to unlock and open the trunk.

    • 2

Pull the weatherstrip down from the underside of the trunk lid. The weatherstrip fits into a groove inside the lid and can be removed with a little pull. If the strip is resistant, use a plastic putty knife and wedge it into the lid groove to loosen the seal.

    • 3

Use a putty knife to scrape away any remaining parts of the weatherstrip and adhesive inside the groove of the lid.

    • 4

Dampen a rag with rubbing alcohol and wipe down the lid to remove any last remnants of adhesive.
