How to Make Ice Cream Cone Christmas Ornaments

While children as young as three can make ice cream ornaments with supervision the activity is also appropriate for adults. Each ornament can be decorated to reflect the maker's favorite flavor of ice cream and toppings. New ornaments can be made annually to reflect the changing tastes of the creator. 1
Apply glue to the inside rim and edge of the sugar cone. Use a thick line of glue, as this is what secures the two parts of the ice cream decoration together.
-
2
Choose the color of Christmas ball that matches the ice cream flavor you want to signify; red for strawberry and white for vanilla, for example. Place the ball into the opening of the cone with the hangar pointing up and away from the cone. Hold in place and allow time for drying according to directions on the glue container.

3
Apply a light film of glue to the outside of the cone. Roll the cone in candy sprinkles or colored sugar and add beads, if you'd like. Choose colors that will shine and sparkle in the glow of Christmas tree lights. Allow decorations to dry.
-
4
Drizzle white acrylic paint on the top of the ball, covering the top half. Allow the paint to drip down the sides, creating an uneven, natural look, as if the ice cream cone had been dipped in white chocolate. Add sparkles or candy sprinkles as desired and allow the ornament to dry.

5
Write the ornament maker's name and the year on the ribbon with a marker. Put the ribbon through the ornament hangar so 4 inches extend on each side. Tie the ends in a bow, creating a tree hanger for your ornament. Hang the decoration on your Christmas tree.

Tips & Warnings
Use solid-colored rather than fancy or ornate ribbon so the focus of the decoration will be the ice cream. Choose balls that are big enough to fill the opening of the cone, but not so big that they overpower the look of the decoration.
Use clear-drying glue rather than a hot glue gun, which can cause delicate Christmas balls to overheat and break. Wrap the ornaments in bubble wrap or tissue for safe storage.
