Weed Eater Model RTE115C Replacement String Instructions

Save

The Weed Eater RTE115C is an electric-powered weed trimmer. You can replace the string by reloading the old spool with new trimmer string or by installing a pre-loaded spool. Reloading an old spool is cost effective but takes more time. The process for replacing the string is not overly difficult regardless of the method you choose. If you use replacement string, only use 0.065-inch string or else you could damage your trimmer.

Things You'll Need

  • 0.065-inch string
  • Knife or scissors
  • Tape measure

Pre-wound Spool

  • Twist the cap off the spool by turning it counterclockwise. This cap holds the spool and trimmer guide onto the trimmer shaft.

  • Remove the string guide and then pull the spool off the trimmer shaft.

  • Discard the old spool and slide the new spool onto the trimmer shaft.

  • Unwind 4 to 6 inches of string from the spool and thread it through the guide.

  • Place the guide onto the spool and thread the cap into place to lock both the guide and spool onto the trimmer shaft.

Loading an Old Spool

  • Twist the cap off the spool by turning it counterclockwise. This cap holds the spool and trimmer guide onto the trimmer shaft.

  • Remove the string guide and then pull the spool off the trimmer shaft.

  • Cut a 25-foot length of trimmer string for installation onto the old spool.

  • Place the tip of the string into the center cavity of the spool and then tightly wrap the string around the spool counterclockwise until you have approximately 4 to 6 inches of string left off the spool.

  • Place the spool onto the trimmer shaft and then thread the line through the guide. Place the guide onto the spool and thread the cap into place to lock both the guide and spool onto the trimmer shaft.
