Instructions on How to Change Water Filters
Refrigerators with water dispensers/ice makers have filters to remove contaminants from the water. You can also connect filters to a sink faucet. In either case, you need to change the filter every six months to a year. The exact process of changing a filter will vary depending on whether you're replacing it on your faucet or refrigerator, along with the exact make and model. Shut off the water supply to the refrigerator -- turn off the valve under the sink or in the rear of the refrigerator, or shut off your home's main water valve.

Drain the remaining water from the water spout, using a large enough cup, to relieve the pressure in the system.

Remove the filter casing; this varies greatly depending on the type of device. Refrigerator filters can require you to twist and remove them from the knob, pop it out with a button or slide it out of its compartment. Faucet filters may require you to loosen fittings with a wench

Remove the filter from the casing.

Turn the water back on. Wash out the casing, cleaning out all sediment and other contaminants that may have built up.

Insert the new filter into the casing and then install the casing onto/within the refrigerator.

Start pouring water from the filter into a clear glass, looking for carbon or other deposits to come out in the water at the beginning.

Tips & Warnings
Watch out for water coming out abruptly in spurts when you turn it on immediately after turning the supply back on.
