How to Troubleshoot a Miller Trailblazer 250G

How to Troubleshoot a Miller Trailblazer 250G thumbnail
Today, Miller makes welding equipment for business and do-it-yourself applications.

In 1929, Miler introduced small, affordable arc welders that worked on standard electricity supplies. Prior to Miller's product, welders used three-phase power, which was only available in cities, thus putting welding out of the reach of rural smithies. Today Miller makes welding equipment for business and do-it-yourself applications. Problems with Miller's Trailblazer 250G welder can include no weld output and low output. These problems can be corrected.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the Trailblazer 250G is turned on if there's no weld output. Place the Output switch into the "On" position, or move the switch to the "Remote 14" position and connect the remote contactor to the remote receptacle marked "RC1" if you continue to have problems.

    • 2

Check the fuses and circuit breakers if there continues to be no weld output. The 115V output to the "RC1" receptacle is protected by the circuit breaker marked "CB1." CB1 is just below the "Off/Start" switch. Press the button the reset the breaker. "CB2," next to it protects the 24V AC output. There are also fuses behind the panel, that protect the exciter excitation winding from overloading, and the AC main field winding from overloading. Change them with like fuses.

Move the remote amperage/voltage switch to the "Panel" position if there's low weld output. Alternatively, move the switch to the "Remote 14" position, and connect the remote amperage/voltage control to the Remote 14 receptacle marked "RC1."

Clean the air filter if you continue to experience low weld output. Stop the engine and wash the pre-cleaner with a soap and water solution. Allow it to dry and add a little SAE30 oil. Replace the air cleaner element if it's soiled --- it's inside the pre-cleaner.
