A witch is a popular costume choice for Halloween. You can use common household items to create your witch costume. If you do have to buy any materials, look at dollar stores and thrift stores before going to costume shops. Costumes shops always cost more money. Plan out exactly how you want to look to make the creating go smoother.

Wicked Witch of the West

Video of the Day

One of the most well-known witches, the Wicked Witch of the West from the "Wizard of Oz," makes a good costume. Before putting together the clothing aspect of the costume, test face makeup. The green face pulls the character together. Her hands are also green. Test a small amount of makeup on the back of the hand or on the arm for skin reactions. After you find the right makeup, start on the clothing. The Wicked Witch of the West wears a long-sleeved black dress. Use a robe, dress or a skirt and shirt combination. Wear a pointed hat and carry a broom. With the release of the book and musical, "Wicked," the Wicked Witch of the West can look young or old. Be sure to cackle, "I'll get you my pretty and your little dog, too!"

Old Witch

An old, ugly witch makes a good costume. Wear black clothing. Throw over a black robe. Stuff a pillow or piece of foam under the back to make a humpback. Apply fake warts to the face and hands. Test the adhesive a few days before for allergic reactions. Wear costume teeth if you want to look even uglier. To make the costume look old, spread fake spider webs over it. You can also cut holes in the fabric or burn the edges. If you burn the edges, be careful and have a bucket of water nearby. A hat is optional. Carry bottles filled with miscellaneous items for potions.

Sexy Witch

Keep the spirit of Halloween, but add a little fun by dressing up as a sexy witch. Start with a short skirt and low-cut peasant top. Any type of short, black skirt works. Add a black belt or suspenders. Wear thigh-high boots, thigh-highs or knee socks. Heels work well for this look. Wear a pointed hat. For a little glam, spread glitter over cheeks and neckline. Carry a short stick for a wand. Wear your hair however you want.
