Scarves aren't just fashion accessories. With their colorful blends of yarns and threads, multitudes of patterns and various sizes, these items look great as part of a home's decorative accessories. They can be hung up in a number of ways to provide soft splashes of colors or to make bold decorative statements. Many ways to display scarves exist, allowing you to tailor the scarves so that they fit in with the rest of your decorating scheme.

Things You'll Need

  • Frames or shadowboxes
  • Curtain or tapestry rods
  • Curtain clips

Framed

  • Buy an assortment of scarves and frames. The framed scarf look works well in decorating styles like shabby chic or Western. When choosing these items, look for frames and scarves that match this type of style. For example, in Western decorating, bandanas offer not only a wide variety of colors, but fit the style. You can experiment with frames as well. While it's possible to use traditional frames, you might also consider filling shadowboxes with a variety of scarves.

  • Put the scarves in the frames. If you do shadowboxes, try folding the scarves into triangles or squares. Otherwise frame them flat, putting them behind a complementary-colored matte. For example, you could frame a yellow scarf with a blue matte and yellow frame.

  • Hang the framed scarves up in a gallery. If you've purchased perfectly-square frames, form a larger square by hanging the frames close together. Otherwise, hang them as you would artwork.

Tapestry Rods

  • Look for large scarves to hang on the tapestry rods. Sarongs make good choices for this type of scarf display, because they are large.

  • Buy rods on which you'd hang a large tapestry. These can actually be curtain rods that allow you to attach the rod hanger to the wall. Look for rods that match your decorating scheme. For example, styles like Tuscan decorating use metal rods made from materials like wrought iron. You also want to make sure that you have curtain clips instead of hooks for this type of wall hanging, since you'll be clipping the scarf onto the clips instead of hooks so that you don't damage the scarf.

  • Clip on the curtain clips.

  • Fasten the clips to the rod. Space them equal distance apart. You have a number of options in terms of how to make this display. For example, you can add three sarongs of different colors to one rod.

  • Hang the rod and the scarves up.
