Emu oil, a product taken from the back fat of the emu bird of Australia, is used in the production of cosmetics. According to the Health and Nutrition website, another benefit of emu oil is that it accelerates hair growth follicles.

Things You'll Need

  • Emu oil
  • Towel
  • Plastic cap

Part your hair in sections to make sure you apply the oil thoroughly to the hair. Pour a dime-size amount of emu oil into the palm your hand. Rub both hands together and apply the oil to the hair. Add additional oil if needed to completely cover the hair.

Massage the emu oil into the scalp, but do not spend time rubbing the scalp. Emu oil penetrates the human skin quickly. Cover the hair with a towel or plastic cap for a minimum of 5 minutes. Leave the oil in the hair longer or overnight for deeper conditioning. Wash and condition hair as usual.

Apply a small amount of emu oil three times a day to target thinning areas. Emu oil naturally contains vitamin A and E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and healing agent, while vitamin A has properties that repair skin. Emu oil is also beneficial in moisturizing the skin and improving its condition. The oil soothes sore muscles and joints and helps relieve cramps and hyper-extended muscles.
