How to Hang a Quilt With Velcro

Don't place quilts in rooms where they compete for visual attention.

Purchasing a decorative quilt is a great way to make a bold, colorful statement with your walls. Large hanging quilts make a striking focal point in any room and can add a rustic feel to home decor. Hanging a decorative quilt correctly is important to preserve its colors and lifespan. Although there are many options for quilt hanging, including rods, quilt hangers and mounting it on a wooden framework, the easiest way to hang a quilt is with self-adhesive Velcro.

Things You'll Need

• Measuring tape
• Straight pins
• Strip of wood
• Nails

Instructions

1. Choose a location for your quilt. Protect your quilt from damage by choosing a location that isn't exposed to direct sunlight or near heat and air ducts. Keep in mind that a large quilt will be the focal point in a small room.

2. Purchase a 2-inch wide strip of self-adhesive Velcro at your local craft or sewing store. Measure your quilt to get the length of Velcro you'll need to buy.

3. Cut a strip of Velcro to fit the top edge of your quilt. Peel off the adhesive backing, and press it firmly along the top edge of your quilt. Secure it with straight pins if the quilt is particularly heavy.

4. Attach the corresponding strip of Velcro to the wall where you want your quilt to hang. If you don't want to apply adhesive Velcro directly to your wall, you can apply it to a strip of wood the same length as your quilt that has been nailed to the wall.

5. Hang the quilt on the wall by firmly pressing the two Velcro strips together. Run your fingers along the top edge of the quilt to make a secure connection once the quilt is hung.
