If you dye hair for a living or you are just an amateur dyeing your own hair, you will likely get hair dye on your skin during the process. Hair dye will eventually wear off over time, but there are measures you can take to remove it sooner rather than later. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Rags
  • Cotton balls
  • Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover
  • Towel
  • Baking soda
  • Liquid dish soap

Instructions

      Wipe off the hair dye with a wet rag as soon as you notice it. This will likely remove most of the dye if it is still wet, but you may still be left with a stain.

      Moisten a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Rub the cotton ball gently over the stain. Switch to a clean cotton ball and add more alcohol or nail polish remover as necessary until the hair dye is gone.

      Wash your skin with a rag and warm, soapy water. Pat the skin dry with a clean towel.

      Make a paste of two parts baking soda and one part dish soap into a bowl if the hair dye stain is persistent. Dip a damp rag into the paste and scrub your skin gently until the hair dye is gone. Wipe your skin with a rag and water, then pat dry with a towel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some other products for removing hair dye from the skin include household lubricating spray, makeup removal cream, Lava soap, toothpaste and hydrogen peroxide.

  • Avoid getting any of these stain removal products in your eyes or mouth. Flush with cool water if this happens.
