Select the "Rectangle" tool on your tools palette in Paint. You select the tool by left-clicking on the square icon in the left toolbar. When selected, it will appear to have a shadow around the edges to show that it is in use. Draw a square by left-clicking with the mouse on the white work surface and holding it until you get the proper shape. When satisfied with the shape, release it by taking your finger off the mouse. Try and make the square equal on all sides. The square is the basic shape that will be used to "carve" out the star shape. Using it as a guide will allow you to make a perfect star every time.

Divide the small left top square in half by drawing two segments from corner to corner and finding the center. Do the same with the top right square. Run a segment horizontally between the two points. This will give you four equal divisions in the top half of the total square. Pick another segment color by selecting it from the palette at the top of the Paint program window. With the new color selected, run a new segment over the last horizontal one drawn.

Left-click to pick colors. With the new color selected, run a new segment over the last horizontal one drawn. The new color will distinguish the star-shape segments from the structure line ones.

Draw diagonal segments from corner to corner in the lower divisions. With the new color from Step 2 selected, draw over the segment in the left division that runs from the top left to the bottom right. This creates the first point of the star. Do the same with the right division, only run the new segment over the one that runs from the top right to the bottom left. This creates the second point of the star.

    • 5

Continue the diagonal segments downward, until they meet the corners of the original square. Draw another segment out of these points, extending them up to the top of the square, and stopping at the corner of the first vertical division. This will create the remaining three points of the star.

Erase any structure lines used to create the star by selecting the "Eraser" tool icon in the left toolbar. Erase by holding the left mouse button down and passing the cursor over the areas. After cleaning up the areas, you should now have an enclosed star shape.
