How to Test an Auto Alarm System for a Jeep

Check to see if the alarm is working on your Jeep.

The alarm system included in your Jeep triggers automatically under certain circumstances. This protects the vehicle from would-be thieves. The alarm itself connects to the lights and horn, both of which activate if the alarm triggers. You can replicate these circumstances if you want to test an alarm and make sure there are no problems with the security system. Manipulating the locking system in the right way will set off a correctly-installed alarm without the need to break a window or force open a door.

Instructions

    • 1

Press and hold the "Panic" button on the Jeep's keyless remote. This button forces the alarm into panic mode which sets off the horn and lighting functions of the Jeep. If this doesn't work, it might be the result of a faulty remote and not the alarm system itself.

    • 2

Set the alarm without the remote by opening the driver side door and pressing the "lock" button on the driver door panel. Be sure all other doors are shut including the liftgate.

    • 3

Close the driver side door and watch the instrument panel. There will be a vehicle security light flashing for 16 seconds which alerts you that the alarm system is arming. If you do not see this, the alarm isn't working or you did not install it properly. If you do see the light but you cannot set the alarm panic system off, then you either have a problem with the keyless remote or the connection between the Jeep alarm module and the internal horn and lighting system.
