How to Donate Furniture in Dallas thumbnail
Donate old pieces to help those in need.

Don't become a hoarder when your old stuff can help American veterans, disabled folks or anyone in need of cheap home furnishings. As long as your old sofa, bed or kitchen set has good bones, it can be donated. Choose the most convenient option for you, and ask for a tax receipt upon donation to shave money off your taxes with the charitable donation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Give old light fixtures, carpets, appliances, cabinets, dining room sets and other pieces of furniture to the Dallas area ReStore, part of Habitat for Humanity. Call the ReStore at 214-678-2354 to discuss your donation first. Materials get reused in Habitat building projects.

Take all types of furniture, particularly mattresses, sofas, dressers, chairs, tables and lamps -- the most-needed items -- to the Dallas Furniture Bank. As long as the furniture's in good condition, stain free and pet-odor or smoke-odor free, Dallas Furniture Bank will accept it. They pick up donations that include at least one of their most-needed items. Call them directly at 972-466-0600 to arrange either a pickup or drop-off donation; drop-offs must be scheduled.

    • 3

Drop smaller furniture items off at a Dallas-area Goodwill. With 20 Dallas-area locations, there's sure to be a Goodwill near you. They prefer small items like end tables, lamps or chairs that one person can handle safely.

Donate furniture, lamps and old televisions to the Dallas area AMVETS -- there are two Dallas thrift stores -- to help military veterans. Call them directly at 972-263-1325 to arrange a pickup.
