How to Create an Online Portfolio With PowerPoint
Showing off your photographs, sketches, abstract art or giant metal yard art can help get commissions and attract attention to your skills, but the act of putting together a hard copy portfolio can be a time-intensive and expensive. Take advantage of Microsoft PowerPoint, instead, to create an online portfolio. PowerPoint's electronic slideshow software is an ideal place to show off portfolio pieces because it puts full design control into the artist's hands. With a few clicks, you'll be ready to post your portfolio to the Web.

Open Microsoft PowerPoint. The software automatically defaults to a blank, single white slide to start the presentation. Click into the "Click to add title" text box, and type directly over the words with the name of your portfolio, such as "Max's Wood Carvings" or "Davida's Knitwork."

2
Click into the "Click to add subtitle" box, and add additional text such as an email address, website url address or phone number. You can remove this box entirely from the slide; click the box's frame and press the "Delete" key to do so.

Click the "View" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Slide Master" button on the ribbon/toolbar. The main workspace changes, and a deck of slides appears on the left side of the screen. This slide will govern how all of the other slides appear, and you only have to create it once.

Click the "Background Styles" button under the "Background" section of the ribbon/toolbar. Click "Format Background." Click the "Picture or texture fill" radio button. Click the "File" button under "Insert from." Browse to a digital photo from the portfolio, and double-click the file name. Click "OK" and click "Apply to All," giving your portfolio a common background featuring one of your designs. Click the "Close" button to close the "Format Background" window.

Click the "Close Master View" red "X" button on the ribbon/toolbar. This returns you to the regular slide deck where each slide may now be added or changed. Click the "New Slide" button on the ribbon/toolbar.

Hover the cursor over the "Click to add title" bar on the new slide and type the name of the artwork to include on that slide, such as "Wood Wizard, circa 1972."
-
7
Click into the large text box on the slide. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click "Picture." Browse to an image to include in the portfolio. Double-click the image to add it to the slide.
-
8
Click the "New Slide" button. Repeat the process of typing the slide name and adding portfolio pieces/images until your presentation is complete.
-
9
Click the "File" tab at the top of the screen. Select "Save As." Type a name for the portfolio file, and click the "Save" button. Upload the file to a website, send it as an email attachment or post it as an available download from a portfolio aggregator.
