How to Unlike a Fan Page on Facebook

How to Unlike a Fan Page on Facebook thumbnail
The "Like" symbol is usually represented by a "thumbs up" icon.

Facebook is constantly changing its features, functions and formatting. Like most popular sites on the Web, the dynamic social networking site has repeatedly changed layouts, user controls and account management tools. However, many of the basic user preferences have remained the same -- you just have to know where to find these settings. Fan pages include a variety of subjects that Facebook users can "Like." If you have recently "Liked" a business, fan page or activity, you can easily "Unlike" the page and remove its posts from your news feed.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the name of the company, fan page or activity you want to "Unlike" into Facebook's search box. Most businesses or pages you have previously "Liked" will pop up immediately after searching.

    • 2

Click on the name of the Facebook page you want to "Unlike" to visit the company profile for a specific product or small business fan page.

    • 3

Scroll down on the page you want to remove from your Facebook "Likes." Depending on the layout of the page, most profiles will have an "Unlike" link toward the bottom of the left-hand bar.

    • 4

Visit your full list of personal "Likes" by clicking on the "Likes" section of your profile. Depending on the layout of your profile, this may be on a box tab at the top of the page or on the left pane under your profile picture. You can also view your "Likes" by clicking on "Info" to view your personal details. The "About Me" sections here include your basic bio, education and contact info along with a list of your "Likes, Activities & Interests." Click on "Edit" to change or remove any from the list.

    • 5

Remove "Likes" for Facebook games and apps by following the same procedures outlined previously. You may or may not have "Liked" all Facebook apps that you use, but many basic informational pages and interests listed in your profile are "Liked" pages. Activities, music, movies and television shows listed among your interests will appear as "Likes."

    • 6

Click on "Account" to edit privacy settings to control data used by apps, games and websites. Although this does not directly allow you to "Unlike" a page, it does give you control over the information accessible to certain apps and websites that you do already "Like."

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also "Unlike" Facebook pages for bands, musicians or events, as well as local Facebook community pages. Many people need to delete a Facebook page after moving, as a school or church Facebook page is no longer relevent to their daily lives. Keeping your Facebook network connections clean and clear-cut will help to prevent spam, ensuring that your Facebook content and updates are helpful, interesting and worth your time.

  • Companies often require you to "Like" a page to print coupons or post content. If you no longer have a reason to maintain the Facebook connection with a Facebook restaurant page or retailer after taking advantage of an offer, the page can quickly be "Unliked."
