My Aspire 4720Z Won't Turn on & the Battery Light Is Flashing

Always check connections before trying other troubleshooting options.

The Aspire 4720Z is a notebook computer made by Acer. There are several possible reasons the computer may not be powering on: the connections may be loose or damaged; the AC adapter or power cord may no longer be functioning; the battery may be defective or no longer working; or the battery may need to be reset or recalibrated. If these methods do not solve the issue with your Acer Aspire, contact Acer support for further troubleshooting options.

Instructions

Check Connections

1. Inspect the AC adapter to be certain it is fully connected to the computer. If the connection is loose, contact Acer for repair service (see Resources).

2. Check the AC adapter connection to the power cord. If the cord will not stay connected, there may be a defect in the power cord. Contact Acer for service options or replacement parts.

3. If the adapter is connected to a power strip, make sure the strip is powered on and is fully connected to the wall socket.

4. Connect the adapter to a different electrical outlet if necessary.

5. After verifying all connections, attempt to power the computer on. If the computer does not turn on, try power reset.

Reset

1. Disconnect the battery, and detach the AC adapter from the notebook.

2. Push the power button, and hold it for 30 seconds.

3. Reattach the battery.

4. Reconnect the AC adapter to the computer and a functioning electrical outlet.

5. Press the power button. If the computer does not power on, attempt to power on without the battery.

Power on Without the Battery

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Remove the battery from its compartment.

3. Connect the AC adapter and power cord.

4. Verify that the power cord is connected to a functioning socket.

5. Press the power button. If this method is successful, the battery may need replacing.

Recalibrating the Battery

1. Attach the notebook to the AC adapter, and allow the battery to fully charge.

2. Detach the AC adapter, and restart the laptop.

3. Fully discharge the battery.

4. Reattach the AC adapter to the laptop.

5. Fully charge the battery.

Tips & Warnings

• If the computer powers up with the battery removed and the AC adapter connected, the battery may need replacing. If the computer does not power on with only the AC adapter connected, the adapter or the power cord may need replacing.

• Be sure to ground yourself or wear an anti-static wrist strap when removing the battery or other laptop components.
