Change the jack on your Volvo 240.

Car manufacturers have tried to make it easy to change a tire if you get a flat. In the trunk they generally provide all the tools needed to accomplish the job. On some vehicles, however, the tools are substandard due to the manufacturers trying to save costs in production. This is why it is important to check the tools when you buy a car. On the Volvo 240 the included tire jack isn't high performing, so here is a way to change it out.

Things You'll Need

Go to the auto parts store and purchase a mini floor jack. The mini floor jack is small but heavy duty and will be easy to use on your Volvo. You can also search for one on the Internet. Expect to wait for a week or two for it to be shipped if you purchase it off the Internet.

Try out your new mini floor jack to see how it works. Make sure your Volvo is parked on a level area and set the parking brake. Roll the jack under the frame of the car and jack it up. Turn the jack handle to the right until it stops and then it will be in the jack mode. Turn the handle to the left and it will let the jack down.

Open your trunk and remove the spare tire and the old jack. Locate the best place to store your new jack in the trunk where it won't rattle around. Replace the spare tire. Now you have changed the jack in your Volvo.
