Care for Hair After Foil Highlights
Foil highlights accent sections of hair by creating lighter strands that catch the light. Although an expensive procedure, the results justify the costs. But, like all chemical procedures on your hair, this technique may cause hair to become brittle and dry, which explains the hair care recommendations by your stylist. Following these recommendations allows your hair to retain moisture and look good long after the foil highlights have been placed. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Go to the salon for a deep conditioning treatment every 30 days or do it yourself at home. Rub quarter-sized portions of hair conditioner on the ends of damp, clean hair. Concentrate on the ends and work your way up to the roots with the conditioner. Add more as needed. Comb the conditioner through your hair and place a shower cap to hold in the heat. Allow the conditioner to sit for 30 minutes, then rinse.

2
Use professional products. Pick shampoo made specifically for color-treated or highlighted hair. Find a good conditioner for dry hair. Buy a deep conditioner for treatments and a leave-in conditioner for other days.

Reduce your use of styling aids or follow the recommended use. Blow dry your hair using a diffuser, which spreads the air out over the head rather than concentrating on one small section. Add a leave-in conditioner before blow drying your hair. Use rag rollers to curl your hair rather than a curling iron. Use the curling iron only for quick touch-ups.

4
Keep styling products to a minimum. Use the amount of gel, mouse or spray recommended for your hair type. Wash products out with a clarifying shampoo weekly to prevent product build-up.
-
5
Schedule root touch-ups every six to eight weeks. Refresh highlights around your face as the hair grows longer and the highlights move or are cut out.
