How to Make Bread Crust More Brown
Making your own fresh home made bread is a satisfying experience that fills your house with wonderful aroma. Professional bakeries have specialized bread baking ovens that differ from household ovens in several respects that create a better crust with deeper and more even browning. Although installing a professional grade bread oven in your home may be impractical, you can achieve many of the same oven conditions at home with a few simple techniques and by using items you may already have in your kitchen. Things You'll Need
- Oven thermometer
- Pizza stone
- Cast iron skillet
- Water
- Ice cubes
- Bread dough
- Flour
- Glass bread pan

Place a pizza stone at the bottom of your oven. This will aid in creating an even heat throughout your oven.

Place a cast iron skillet on the bottom rack of your oven. This will also assist in ensuring an even temperature in the oven and also provide a place to add water at the beginning of the baking process to add steam to the baking environment.

Install an external oven thermometer to monitor the temperature of your oven. Some household ovens may not have proper thermostat calibration and therefore should be supplemented with an external thermometer.

Preheat your oven to the appropriate temperature for your bread recipe.

Moisten the prepared bread dough with a little water and then sprinkle some flour over the top of the loaf.
