How to Make a Bun in the Oven Baby Shower Game

Save

Games are a staple at most baby showers, but most guests are tired of the diaper pin or naming games often played. Instead, make simple game pieces to introduce your guests to a cute new Bun in the Oven game where they must wait to find out whose game piece is hiding something special that will win them a prize. Older kids of the mom-to-be may enjoy helping to make these simple game pieces, so grab your helpers and get started. Prizes for this game of luck can range from a piece of chocolate to a bottle of champagne or anything in between.

Things You'll Need

  • Felt
  • Heavy paper or cardboard
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Cotton balls
  • Button or bead
  • Decorations
  • Small safety pins
  • Draw a dress shape onto a piece of heavy paper or cardboard and cut it out.

  • Fold a piece of felt in half.

  • Trace around the cardboard dress shape onto the felt and cut out the shape with sharp scissors.

  • Cut out twice as many dress shapes as there will be guests at the party, since you will need two dress shapes for each game piece. You may want to make a few extras just in case.

  • Squirt hot glue around the sides and top of one dress shape and quickly press another dress shape on top, being careful to align the edges. Do not glue the bottom shut. Hot glue dries quickly, so work fast for this step.

  • Glue the top and sides of all the dress pairs together.

  • Stuff all of the dress-shaped game pieces with cotton to form a pregnant belly shape.

  • Insert a button, bead, or other very small item into only one of the game pieces. Try to press it into the cotton so it is not detectable from the outside of the dress.

  • Squirt one small dot of glue between the bottom layers of the dress shapes and press to seal. There should be room for the players to insert a finger to pull the dress apart when it is time.

  • Glue decorations such as mini-pearls, bows, or flowers onto the dresses, or use fabric paint to add decorations if desired.

  • Insert a small safety pin through the back of each dress game piece.

  • Pass the dress game pieces out to each guest when they arrive and have them pin the dresses onto their shirts.

  • Instruct the guests to open their dress game pieces during or at the end of the baby shower. The guest who finds the button or pearl "bun in the oven" gets a prize of your choice.
