How to Get Your Rims Dipped
Applying chrome to your car's tire rims, also known as "dipping," is a process in which a chrome coating is applied to the metal surface of the rims. The procedure uses electrodeposition, more commonly known as "electroplating," which is a complicated process involving the use of an electromagnetic field to coat the surface of each rim with metallic ions. You can dip your rims in chrome yourself; however, it requires expensive machinery and chemicals. You'll find it more cost-effective to contact a chrome plating company in your area and have them dip the rims for you.

1
Locate a chrome plating company that provides rim-dipping services by using an online directory of businesses such as the Industrial Quick Search Manufacturer Directory (see Resources). Companies that offer chrome-plating services for tire rims include Custom Wheels and Car Rims, Discounted Wheel Warehouse, California Chrome Wheel & Tire and Acme Industrial Plating, among others.

2
Contact the chrome plating company and inquire how your rims should be delivered. If you are using a local company, you may be able to drive your rims to their factory and drop them off. If you are using a company located in another state, you will have to ship the rims to their factory. Ask if the company can supply you with shipping labels and containers or if you must provide your own.

Deliver your rims to the chrome plating company. Ask how long the process will take and when you should expect the rims to be ready. If you use a local company, ask if you can pick up your rims when they are finished. If you use an out-of-state company, your rims will be shipped back to you.
