How to Make Glitter in Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is best known for its capabilities as a photographic editing software program, but it is also adept at creating effects and digital art from scratch. These effects and images can then be applied to other photographs and digital art to create completely new compositions. Using a combination of the program's filter tools and layering options, you can create a swatch of glitter in any color you choose, which can stand on its own or be added to other work down the line.

1
Open Photoshop, and select "File > New" from the control menu. Set your desired dimensions, and click "OK."
-
2
Set your foreground color to the hue you want your glitter to be by clicking on the foreground swatch at the bottom of the tools panel, at the left of your screen. Select from the Color Picker in the resulting dialog box.

3
Select "Filter > Render > Clouds" from the control menu. Your canvas should be filled with what appears to be smoke in the color you chose.
-
4
Create a new layer by clicking open the "Layers" palette at the right of the screen. Click the "Create a new layer" icon at the bottom of the palette. It looks like a square page that is being turned.
-
5
Double-click on your cloud layer to unlock it, and click and drag the new layer below your cloud layer in the "Layers" palette. Select "Edit > Fill" from the control menu, and select "White" from the "Contents" drop-down menu. Click "OK."
-
6
Select your cloud layer from the "Layers" palette, and select "Filter > Noise > Add Noise" from the control menu. The "Preview" and "Monochromatic" boxes should be checked. Set the Distribution section to "Uniform," and slide the "Amount" slider until the white background of your lower layer begins to peek through. This should create the effect of refracted light, and your canvas will look like glitter.

7
Save your glitter composition by selecting "File > Save As" from the control menu.
