How to Fly to the US Virgin Islands
United States residents looking for a tropical island get-away with no passport involved may be considering a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Caribbean, the islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John and Water Island make up the territory. Several airlines offer both non-stop and connecting services to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Choose the time of year that you'll be making the trip. Peak tourist season lasts from November through May. Travel website CheapFlights.com recommends booking your flight six months in advance if traveling in the peak season. June through October is the off-season and you'll likely be able to find flights at a discounted rate at this time.

Price the different flight options for the dates in which you plan on traveling. As of 2010, the airlines that fly to the U.S. Virgin Islands are US Airways, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines. Check fares by calling the individual airlines or searching on their websites or websites of travel companies.

Book your preferred flight with the airline of your choice.

Bring your drivers license or photo ID to the airport on the day of your flight. If you are a U.S. citizen you can travel to the islands without a passport as they are territories of the United States.

Tips & Warnings
There are two major airports on the islands. The Henry E. Rohlsen Airport is on St. Croix and the Cyril E. King Airport is on St. Thomas. Inter-island flights are available with several carriers if neither of these islands are your ultimate destination within the territory.
