How to Use Karo Syrup for Constipation

Save

Constipation is a common affliction that affects millions of people worldwide. Constipation can be a one-time problem or it can be a reoccurring malady that requires dietary changes or regular treatment. Karo syrup is a corn syrup that is sometimes used as a home remedy for constipation. While it is not recommended as a regular treatment for the ailment, using Karo syrup for the treatment of occasional constipation is a simple process.

Stir 1 to 2 tsp. of Karo syrup into a glass of warm water. The warm water will assist in treating the blocked bowel.

Drink the entire glass of water with the Karo syrup in it.

Wait several hours before taking another dose of Karo syrup. Karo syrup takes longer to work than medications but it also doesn't have the side effects those medicines can bring about. If the Karo syrup isn't working or of the condition returns on a regular basis, see a doctor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Children can be given Karo syrup as well, but their dose should be only 1/4 tsp. The Mayo Clinic reports it is not likely to be effective for infants.
