How to Clean Silicone Lubricant From a Treadmill Belt

How to Clean Silicone Lubricant From a Treadmill Belt thumbnail
Routine maintenance is required for your treadmill to run smoothly.

Oiling the deck of the treadmill with a silicone-based lubricant is an important aspect of routine maintenance. The silicone creates a barrier between the belt and the deck. This reduces friction; prolonging the life of your treadmill's belt and decreasing the workload of the motor. Most treadmill manufacturers recommend that you lubricate the belt every six months. To prevent a slick film from forming, excess lubricant applied on the belt or deck should be cleaned immediately.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of water and one drop of dish soap. The dish soap will remove the silicone film.

    • 2

Put on a pair of rubber gloves. Prolonged exposure to silicone dries skin.

    • 3

      Unplug the treadmill.

    • 4

Wipe excess silicone from the belt with a dry towel.

    • 5

Use the spray bottle to apply sparingly the soap solution to the deck and side rails of the treadmill. The spray shouldn't be applied to belt of the treadmill, as it'll dissolve the needed lubricant.

    • 6

Wipe the areas you have just sprayed with a towel.

    • 7

Inspect the treadmill to ensure that you haven't missed any excess silicone.
