A DirecTV satellite television system remote control is designed to function with the DirecTV receiver. However, there are many television models that are compatible with the DirecTV remote. As a result, the DirecTV remote can be used to control your television. When the TV input is programmed, you are able to control functions like "On/Off", channel changing and more. Programming the DirecTV remote to control your television is a fairly straightforward process.

      Turn your television set on.

      Slide the "Mode" switch. located at the top of the DirecTV remote, to "TV."

      Press and hold down the "Mute" button located just above the number "1" button on the remote. While holding the "Mute" button, press and hold down the "Select" button until you see the green light at the top of the remote flash twice.

      Enter "9911" into the remote, and the remote will flash twice again. This will prompt the remote to scan for the appropriate remote code for your television.

      Aim remote at TV and press PWR button once. The TV should power off.

      Press "Channel Up" while pointing the remote at the television, then tap the "Channel Up" button repeatedly until your television turns off.

      Press and release the "Select" button on the remote.
