How to Move the Windows Media Player Plug-in in Linux

Mozilla Firefox is a free web browser that comes packaged with many versions of the Linux operating system. Firefox has access to dozens of plugins to enhance your web experience, from multimedia to advanced search engine options. You can install a Windows Media Player plugin, called Mplayer, that allows you to play a variety of Windows Media files. You can move this plugin to another place on your file system any time you want. Note that moving the plugin will disable its functions in Firefox until you replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Places" and double-click "File System" to access your application files. This displays an array of folders containing important data to run your programs correctly.

    • 2

Double-click the "usr" folder, followed by the "lib" folder to access its contents. Double-click the "Firefox" folder to access Firefox's application data.

    • 3

Double-click the "Plugin" folder to view currently installed plugins. Locate "Mplayer," right-click it and select "Cut."

    • 4

Locate and open the destination folder for the Windows Media Player plugin, right-click the folder and select "Paste." This moves Mplayer from the Firefox plugin folder into the destination folder.
