Measuring your sofa will give you an accurate idea of how much fabric you will require for reupholstering, or it can help you choose the right slipcover size.   • Paper

      Determine the overall length of the sofa. Measure from the left outside arm edge to the right outside arm edge straight across the front of the sofa with the tape measure. Write the measurement down on the paper.

      Measure the seating space length and depth of the sofa. Place the tape measure at the inside edge of the left arm of the sofa and extend it over to the inside edge of the right arm. Place the tape measure at the back of the cushion and extend it to the front of the cushion. Write these measurements down. If your couch varies in length or depth, use the longest measurement.

      Check the outside measurement by stretching the tape measure around the couch from the outside left edge of the sofa arm and around the top edge of the back of the sofa to the outside right edge of the sofa arm. Write the measurement down.

      Measure the back of the sofa. Start the tape measure at the back of the middle seat cushion, extend it up and around to the back of the sofa and stretch it straight down to the floor. Write the measurement down.
