How to Troubleshoot an HDTV Converter Box
If you have an HD-ready television, you are able to view HD programming. But the TV doesn't have an actual HD tuner installed. You need to hook up an HDTV converter box. This box takes the HD signal given out by a high-definition cable or satellite receiver and adjusts it so the HD-ready television can show the programming.

1
Examine the HDMI cable connection running from the HD converter box and the television. The cable needs to be completely inserted into the connection ports, otherwise you might loose the video/audio signal.
-
2
Select "HDMI" as the input option. If any other option is chosen, the video signal is not going to appear on the screen.
-
-
3
Disconnect the HDMI cable running into the TV and plug it into a different HDMI port. It is possible the HDMI port isn't functioning correctly on the TV, preventing you from receiving an audio or video signal.

4
Power down the HDTV converter box, disconnect it from the electrical outlet and leave it off for a few minutes. This performs a hard reset on the device. Reconnect the hardware and turn on the converter box.
