How to Reload Software on a BlackBerry

As you can with your computer, you can install software onto your BlackBerry phone to ensure it has the latest updates, fastest browser and newest features. If you see a message on your phone: "Reload software: 552" or "App Error 552," you'll need to reload your BlackBerry software to upgrade to the latest available BlackBerry device software version. With the help of BlackBerry Desktop Manager (see Resources if it's not installed on your home computer), you can easily reload and upgrade your current BlackBerry software.

Things You'll Need

  • USB cable
  • Turn your phone over and remove the battery cover. Remove the battery from your BlackBerry and set it aside.

  • Double click BlackBerry Desktop Manager from your computer's desktop or Start Menu.

  • Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.

  • Double click "Application Ladder" from Desktop Manager.

  • Click "Start" under "Update Software."

  • Click "Options." Click to check specific applications or programs that you'd like to install onto your BlackBerry phone. You can also use this to remove any unnecessary or unused applications. Click "Next" when finished.

  • Click "Next" again, then select "Finish."

  • Insert the BlackBerry battery back into your phone, and replace the battery cover when the "Application Load Process" begins.

  • Allow several minutes for the software to reload and install.

  • Disconnect your phone from the computer when the installation process is complete. Restart your phone if prompted to do so.
