Gas can build up in the stomach or abdomen when it doesn't exit the body through belching or flatulence. This gas buildup can cause bloating, discomfort and pain. Gas is produces as a by-product of the foods you eat and by swallowing too much air. In order to reduce abdominal gas, you can address your diet, the way you eat and drink and nutritional supplements available for improving digestive health.

      Avoid drinking carbonated beverages. These drinks can add air to the stomach and increase bloating and gas.

      Reduce your consumption of gas-producing vegetables and fruits. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, apples, pears and lettuce are all known to contribute to gas production. Limit or avoid these foods if you are suffering from gas.

      Avoid chewing gum and hard candy. Sucking or chewing on candy causes your mouth to open and take in excess air.

      Eat slowly and deliberately. Avoid gulping air and take your time while chewing to avoid swallowing too much air.
