Changing the headlamps when needed is important for your safety and the safety of fellow motorists. A burned out headlamp cuts the amount of light for nighttime visibility in half. The 1997 Infiniti QX4 features a modular headlamp design that allows you to remove the bulb without removing the enclosure. Changing the headlamp bulb should take no more than 20 minutes to undertake.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery. Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the bulb.

      Unlock the retaining ring by turning it counterclockwise. Pull the ring away from the headlight.

      Pull the headlight bulb out of the assembly. Insert the new headlight bulb into the assembly with the flat side of the plastic base facing up. Do not touch the glass portion of the bulb.

      Reinstall the retaining ring over the bulb. Lock it into place by turning the ring clockwise until it stops.

      Plug the electrical connector into the back of the bulb. Repeat the procedure for the other headlamp if necessary. Reconnect the negative terminal cable to the battery and close the hood.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always disconnect the battery when working on a vehicle's electrical components. This will reduce the likelihood of shock and serious injury.

  • Never touch the headlamp bulb. Oil residue from skin contact can adversely affect the bulb, reducing its effectiveness.
