How to Attach Snap-on Buttons
Like regular buttons, snap-on buttons, also referred to as snap fasteners, secure a garment in place. However, rather than slipping a button through a buttonhole, you press a snap-on button closed to secure the garment in place. A snap-on button is made up of two internal pieces and two external decorative pieces.

1
Use the seamstress chalk to mark the spots on the fabric where you need to attach each side of the snap fastener. Mark the spots clearly so when you puncture the fabric you do it correctly. There are two marks for each snap fastener.
-
2
Place the fabric on your work table or any hard surface so that the marked areas are facing up. Puncture the fabric through both marks you made with your leather punch and a hammer.

-
3
Place one smooth snap piece on the lower ring inside the opened snap-setting tool so that the snap's pointy prongs face upward.
-
4
Place the other side of the snap piece on the upper ring inside the opened snap-setting tool so that the nipple points upward. The snap clips into place when you push it.
-
5
Place the fabric in the tool's open jaws. Center the hole in the fabric between the prongs of the snap over the snap piece. Close the tool's jaws completely to secure the snap fastener onto the fabric.
-
6
Place one smooth snap piece on the lower part of the opened snap-setting tool so that the concave hole faces upward. Place the other side of the snap piece on the upper ring.
-
7
Center the other hole in the tool's jaws and attach the snap as you did in Step 5.
