How to Use a Cell Phone As a Headphone Microphone

The headphone jack turns off the internal speaker of a cell phone, but does not affect the built-in microphone. You can use the cell phone's microphone in conjunction with the headphones as if the mic were connected to the headphone's cable. The cell phone does not have to be modified in any way, although a simple adjustment should be made first.

Instructions

1. Insert an audio plug at the end of the headphone's cord into the headphone jack on the cell phone--typically this will be at the upper left or right corner of the phone.

2. Reduce the cell phone's volume 50 percent by depressing the "Vol-" rocker switch on the side or by sliding an on-screen switch toward the right--the choice will depend upon the type of cell phone being used.

3. Select the phone function of the cell phone. Make a call by pressing keys on the keypad or by pressing keys on an on-screen keypad---the choice will depend upon the type of cell phone being used.

4. Place your mouth next to the microphone at a bottom edge of the cell phone. Listen to the person's voice when he answers the phone through the headphones as you respond to him by talking into the microphone on the cell phone.
