How to Print Your Own Wedding Announcements for Free
An alternative to having your wedding announcements professionally printed is to design and make them yourself and print them on your own home computer. This will save you considerable amounts of money, while also giving your invitations a much more personal, handmade feel. Add ribbon and patterned paper behind the invitation to give it a decorative touch, or even choose to include a photo with the invitation. By printing the invitations at home you will be able to cut down your wedding budget markedly.

1
Visit project galleries on wedding websites to search for ideas and inspiration for your wedding invitation. Look at variables such as size, embellishments and how much the invitation will weigh once you are done creating it. Remember that you will need to purchase envelopes separately and also pay for postage to mail the invitations. Go to websites such as Get Married, The Knot and Martha Stewart Weddings to even find and download templates for your wedding invitation, or create your own using word processing software.
-
2
Open your word processing software and set the document to be a certain size. Choose "Page Setup" from the "File" menu drop-down, and adjust the margins to choose the correct paper size for your document. Confirm that you can purchase envelopes in that size, as well as price how much it will be to mail from the post office. Many larger envelopes cost additional postage to mail.

3
Create the text part of the invitation by selecting an appropriate font. The font box is usually located on the toolbar at the top of the document. Click on the arrow to the right of the font box for a pull-down list of available fonts. Choose one that is both easy to read and flows with the general theme of your wedding. Type all of the text that you would like to appear on your invitations, such as the name of the hosts, the name of the couple, the ceremony location and any dinner or reception events that are to take place after the ceremony. Add any decorative elements -- like a monogram or fancy divider images -- to the invitation.
-
4
Prepare your document for printing. If you have selected a size such as 8 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches, or exactly on half of a sheet of standard cardstock paper, then you will be able to fit two of the invitations on the paper when you print them. Inspect how your document will fit on the page by choosing the "Print Preview" menu option from the "File" drop down main menu navigation.
-
5
Load your cardstock paper into your printer. If you are printing on regular cardstock, it will not matter which side is on the top or bottom; however, if you are using a special cardstock with an image on one side, place the correct side in the printer, so the text will print on the corresponding side.
-
6
Print your invitations. Choose "File" again from the main menu of your word processing program and select "Print" from the menu. You will be asked one more time if you wish to print; choose "Ok."
-
7
Cut the invitations in two if you printed two on one sheet of paper. Repeat until you reach your desired amount of invitations for your wedding.
