Research and review the products that are available for automated Twitter applications. There are a number of tools and utilities out there, ranging from free services to professional subscription services. SocialOomph, Tweet Adder and AutoFollowback.com are popular options that offer a follow back feature. All of them work in a similar manner in terms of how they automatically follow back, although some may have additional features or an interface that is easier for you to understand. Select a Twitter application that you will use to automate this process.

Create an account with the utility you have selected, and link that account to your Twitter profile. After signing up for an account with the auto-follow site, you will use a Twitter API link to sign into your Twitter account. This programs the script to work with your Twitter account and grants it access to some areas of your account on Twitter.

Select the options that you would like the follow-back program to use. This is typically as simple as checking a box to let the program know you want to follow your new followers back. You can also choose to automatically send a Direct Message (DM) to new Twitter followers, making it easy to welcome newcomers with a custom message.

Save your settings and allow the follow back program to run automatically. When you save the settings, the program will access your Twitter profile and make a record of your current followers. It will make a new record after twenty-four hours and compare the two to determine who the new followers are and will then log into your Twitter account to follow those people back. The process is repeated every twenty-four hours.

Tips & Warnings
Remember that just because the program makes the follow back process automatic, it does not mean that it is instant. The program will only check your account every twenty-four hours, and will then spread the follow-back over a period of time so that the Twitter API does not become congested.
