Place a wedge between the rubber weather seal and the window's glass. The wedge should be placed to create a gap above the car door handle. Matchbooks and rubber door stops make decent wedges.

Slide the notched end of the slim jim down the gap you made with the wedge.

Hook the notch of the slim jim around the door's opening mechanism. The opening mechanism is a thin metal rod located between the door's lock and the door's handle.
