How to Tell the Age of a Whirlpool Washer and Dryer

While buying a used washer and dryer may be an effective way to save money on home appliances, you’re taking a risk buying them secondhand. One of the biggest indicators of how much life washer or dryer has left is its age. Many dealers or owners selling used appliances may not know how old the units are. However, if they are Whirlpool appliances, the company's customer service department can tell you how old they are for free. First, you need to find the model number.

Instructions

1. Open the lid of the washing machine and locate the model sticker on the rim of the tub. Write down the model number.

2. Open the dryer door and locate the model sticker on the inside of the door. Write down the model number.

3. Call Whirlpool customer service. Answer accordingly when the automated system asks you if you’re calling from your home phone and if you own the appliance in question.

4. Explain to the customer service representative that you need to date a washer and dryer. Give the representative the model numbers for both machines. The company database will have the

   manufacture dates.

Tips & Warnings

• If you still have the retail sales receipts or the use and care manual, you can look to those materials to estimate the manufacture date.

• The Whirlpool customer service is only open Monday through Friday, 8am to 10pm EST and Saturdays 12pm to 5pm EST.
