How to Use a Delta 22-540 Planer
The Delta 22-540 wood planer is a portable planer that can sit on top of work benches. The planer has the ability to cut wood that is 12 inches wide and 6 inches thick. The Delta 22-540 planer cuts to a depth of 3/16 inch. The planer is powered by a 120-volt motor. Planning wood removes superficial damage to the surface of the wood, such as scratches or minor dents. After planing, the wood has a smoother surface.

1
Plug the three-prong cord of the planer into a grounded outlet. Make sure the planer is plugged all the way into the socket to prevent sparks or accidental shock.
-
2
Set the height of the cutter head by turning the handle located on the top of the planer. One revolution of the handle will move the head of the planer 5/64 inch.
-
-
3
Level the extension tables. This will keep the wood from placing pressure on the cutter head as it moves through the planer. Loosen the lock-nut on the extension table, and then adjust the stop screws on either side of the extension table. When the table is level, replace the lock-nut.
-
4
Turn on the planer with the "On/Off" switch on the front side of the tool.
-
5
Position the wood at the entry end of the planer. Push the wood into the planer until the cutter head of the planer engages on the wood. The wood will be moved through the planer by the power of the cutter head. If the wood doesn't move through the planer independently, gently push or pull on the wood to help it move through the planer. Never reach into the cutter head area of the planer while the tool is running.
-
6
Wax the table of the planer with a thin layer of car wax to prevent friction. The table should be waxed about once every 25 uses of the planer.
