How to Remove an RV Slideout

An RV slideout is an additional compartment that can be added to the RV to give more space to the interior of the recreational vehicle when it's parked. Removing an RV slideout is a lot easier than installing it, but it still requires a little bit of help from able-bodied friends as the slideout compartment will be large and heavy. Whether you have a hydraulic slideout or a rack-and-pinion slideout, removing the slideout unit will be very similar.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Push out the slideout compartment as if you were going to be using the extra space on a camping trip or some other recreational activity.

    • 2

Put jack stands at the end of the slideout compartment farthest from the RV to hold the compartment in place once you've dislodged it from the RV.

    • 3

Remove the pin on the rack and pinion or hydraulic racks that stops the slideout compartment from sliding completely away from the RV. Use a screwdriver or wrench to dislodge the pin.

    • 4

Use at least four able-bodied friends to help you finish sliding out the slideout compartment and gently lower the compartment to the ground.
