How to Replace Comcast DVRs
The digital video recorder is today's answer to the video cassette recorder, which allowed television owners to copy shows and movies onto analog tape. It is a device Comcast cable subscribers can choose to add on to their service packages. Although technology has greatly improved since the days of jammed cassettes and tangled tape, DVRs do break from time to time. If you are a Comcast customer and need to replace your DVR, don't panic -- the process is simple and straightforward.

Troubleshoot your DVR before you order a replacement. A customer experiencing DVR problems should contact a Comcast representative via "Live Chat" or phone, according to Comcast's online "Ask Comcast" tool. Visit comcastsupport.com to initiate a "Live Chat," or call Comcast customer service at (800) 266-2278.

Work through any steps the associate gives you that you have not already tried. Even if you're proficient with electronics such as a DVR, she may be able to provide you a solution with which you weren't aware. Fixing your current DVR will result in immediate service resumption, whereas replacing it will require Comcast deliver a new one to you.

Inform the representative once his last suggestion has failed. Tell him you would like to order a new DVR device and have it delivered straight away. If you're speaking to someone on the phone, he may need to transfer you at this point. Provide the new representative with all the pertinent information, which will include your Comcast account number and the DVR's serial number, which you can find on the bottom of the device.
